Pan Am

Brazil has participated in every Pan Am Games since they began in Buenos Aires 1951, and hosted twice: São Paulo 1963 and Rio de Janeiro 2007. Brazil also competed at the Las Leñas 1990 Pan Am Winter Games.

The country has won 1,066 medals – 287 gold, 319 silver and 460 bronze – placing fourth on the all-time Pan Am Games medal list. Its best Games performance came as host nation at Rio 2007, with 157 medals.

Brazilian swimmer Thiago Pereira will be an athlete to watch at TORONTO 2015. One of the most decorated athletes in the history of the Pan Am Games, Pereira has won twelve gold medals in two Pan Am appearances, and currently shares the record for most medals won at a single Games – with eight medals at each of Rio 2007 and Guadalajara 2011.

Parapan Am

Brazil has competed at every edition of the Parapan Am Games and is the all-time leader on the medals table.

As host of Rio de Janeiro 2007, Brazil became the first country to stage the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games together.

At Guadalajara 2011, Brazil took home 197 medals, with particularly strong performances in swimming (85 medals) and athletics (60 medals).

One standout athlete set to participate at TORONTO 2015 is Jefinho Gonçalves, gold medallist at Rio de Janeiro 2007 and Guadalajara 2011 in men’s five-a-side football.
